Winter School for Scientific Artificial Intelligence (SAI) 2026
January 7–10, 2026, at the University of Puerto Rico – Mayagüez
We are excited to announce the second edition of the Winter School for Scientific Artificial Intelligence (SAI), taking place January 7–10, 2026, at the University of Puerto Rico – Mayagüez. This event is a joint collaboration between the University of Puerto Rico at Mayagüez (UPRM) and the University of Notre Dame. Building on last year’s successful launch, this collaborative initiative continues to bring together researchers, students, and practitioners eager to explore the rapidly evolving intersection of AI, science, and engineering.

Advancing Science Through Artificial Intelligence
This academic and interdisciplinary event will explore how advances in artificial intelligence are transforming research across science and engineering. Through a combination of lectures, hands-on tutorials, and networking sessions, attendees will learn from experts pushing the boundaries of scientific AI.
New This Year: An AI Hackathon
The 2026 program introduces an exciting addition: an AI Hackathon designed to challenge participants to build creative AI-based solutions to real scientific and engineering problems. Teams of students and mentors will work together to develop demos and compete for prizes based on innovation and impact.
Teams will be formed once registration is finalized. However, if you already have a team in mind, make sure that each member registers individually, and that the team leader reports the full team composition following the instructions in the registration form.
Why Participate?
The Winter School provides a unique environment for interdisciplinary learning, skill-building, and collaboration. Participants will:
Engage with leading researchers working at the frontier of scientific AI
Explore new tools and techniques transforming science and engineering
Connect with peers across institutions to spark future collaborations
Gain hands-on experience (and possibly win prizes!) through the hackathon
Whether you’re an established researcher, a graduate student, or an enthusiastic undergraduate, the Winter School offers something for everyone interested in the future of AI-driven discovery.
