Help Drive Innovation and Discovery
Your donation fuels groundbreaking research, supports future scientists, and helps us address real-world challenges.
Support Innovation That Shapes a Better Future
At our research group, we blend science and engineering to create smart soft materials—including colloids, gels, liquid crystals, and polymers. These materials might sound complex, but they play powerful roles in everyday life: they’re improving how we treat diseases, store energy, clean water, and more. And we believe their potential has only just begun to be tapped.
Our mission goes beyond discovery. We are committed to mentoring and training the next generation of scientists right here in Puerto Rico. So far, over 100 students have joined our group, gaining hands-on experience and launching careers that have global reach.
We are dedicated to disseminating our work through peer-reviewed papers and have shared our findings at many scientific conferences. These contributions connect fundamental theory with practical solutions to real-world challenges.

Amplifying Your Impact
We encourage donors to explore whether their respective companies or organizations offer any of the following options, which can greatly enhance the value and impact of their contributions to the University of Puerto Rico (UPR) and, specifically, to support our research group.
-
Many employers match employee contributions to educational institutions. Through such programs, every donation designated for our research group at UPRM can be doubled—or even tripled—amplifying the collective impact and reinforcing our shared commitment to advancing higher education and research.
-
Some organizations allow employees to set up recurring payroll deductions, designating a fixed amount of their salary to be donated directly to UPRM. Contributions directed to our research group through this mechanism provide consistent, sustained support for our academic, research, and community development initiatives.
The University of Puerto Rico (UPR) is a public higher education institution. Donations made to UPR are tax deductible by donors, under section 170(b)(1)(A) and 170(b)(1)(A)(v) of the US Government Internal Revenue Code, if made for public purposes. UPR is eligible to receive tax deductible charitable contributions under section 170(c) of the US Government Internal Revenue Code. Donors will have the right to claim federal tax deductions, subject to certain limitations, if donations are made according to the applicable code dispositions.
Why Donate?
Once your donation is received, we’ll send you an official acknowledgment and will provide periodic updates on how your support is being used—including research highlights, student stories, and upcoming events where we’d love for you to be involved.
-
Your donation supports fundamental scientific research at the cutting edge of soft matter and fluid mechanics. Our group explores how microscopic particles—colloids—interact in complex fluids, unlocking principles that govern everything from biological systems to industrial processes. Using artificial intelligence, machine learning, and high-performance computational simulations, we accelerate the pace of discovery and uncover behaviors that are impossible to observe with traditional methods alone. This knowledge is foundational to breakthroughs in areas such as targeted drug delivery, clean energy, and nanotechnology. By supporting our work, you enable research that not only expands scientific understanding but also drives innovation with global and societal impact.
-
Scientific leadership begins with mentorship, opportunity, and access to advanced tools. Your donation allows us to train exceptional undergraduate and graduate students in the heart of Puerto Rico using the latest in AI, data analysis, and computational modeling. Our students gain hands-on experience solving real-world problems, present their work at national and international conferences, and develop critical thinking and leadership skills essential for 21st-century careers. Many of our alumni pursue advanced degrees at top institutions or become professionals in high-impact sectors. Your support ensures that promising minds receive the training, mentorship, and resources needed to become tomorrow’s scientific and technological leaders.
-
Puerto Rico holds vast potential for scientific and technological advancement—and your donation helps unlock it. Our research group is a hub of innovation, engaging local students, collaborating with global partners, and applying advanced computational science and AI to solve complex challenges. We actively work to retain talent on the island, build academic-industrial partnerships, and cultivate a scientific culture that drives entrepreneurship and knowledge-based development. Supporting our work strengthens Puerto Rico’s capacity for discovery, contributes to economic resilience, and positions the island as a contributor—not just a consumer—of high-tech innovation.
-
Your donation provides students from diverse socioeconomic backgrounds the chance to participate in high-level research that was once limited to elite institutions. With your support, we offer research assistantships, computational training, and mentorship programs that equip students with the skills to thrive in STEM fields. Many are first-generation college students who go on to careers in academia, industry, and public service. By investing in them, you are not only changing individual lives—you are empowering a generation that will shape the scientific, environmental, and technological future of Puerto Rico and beyond.
